Cell division inhibitor. It is reported that chloroacetamides inhibit synthesis of very long chain fatty acids. Maize tolerance of chloroacetamides is attributed to rapid detoxification by glutathione S-transferases. |

Uses |
Control of annual grasses (Echinochloa, Digitaria, Setaria, Brachiaria, Panicum and Cyperus spp.) and some broad-leaved weeds (Amaranthus, Capsella and Portulaca spp.) in maize, sorghum, cotton, sugar beet, fodder beet, sugar cane, potatoes, soya beans, peanuts, sunflowers, various vegetables, and pulse crops. Applied pre-plant incorporated, pre-emergence or early post-emergence, at 0.6-1.6 kg/ha. Often used in combination with broad-leaved herbicides, to extend the spectrum of activity. |

Uses |
Used pre-emergence in winter cereals, at 1-2 kg/ha, to control Alopecurus myosuroides (black-grass) and Poa annua (annual meadow grass). Among the autumn-germinating broad-leaved weeds controlled are Stellaria media (chickweed), Matricaria (mayweed) and Veronica (speedwell), but Galium aparine (cleavers) are rather resistant. Other pre-emergence uses are on sugar cane and sunflowers, and, in mixture with terbuthylazine, on beans, peas and potatoes. In mixture with metolachlor, used in cotton and peanuts. Also used post-emergence (at 0.2-0.4 kg/ha) in cereals, (at 1-3 kg/ha) in sugar cane, and as a directed spray in maize. As 'Clarosan', it is used to control algae and submerged vascular plants in waterways, reservoirs and fish ponds. |
